The Human Resources Department supports the mission of Shaker Village by providing services to attract, engage and retain high quality employees, and developing a supportive culture to stimulate continuous improvement and efficient performance in achieving goals. 

Job Summary 

The Human Resources Assistant Recruiter is responsible for Human Resources functions with emphasis on recruiting, onboarding, interviewing and job posting control.  This role is responsible for ensuring compliance in employment standards, handling human resource documents, forms and records and supports the hiring process according to company policy, state and federal laws. 

Responsibilities and duties: 

  • Establish recruiting requirements aligned with SVPH plans and objectives; meeting with department managers to discuss staffing needs.
  • Build applicant sources by researching and contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, internet sites; shares organization information, opportunities and benefits; develop and deliver presentations.
  • Identify and attend job fairs and conferences regularly.
  • Determine applicant requirements and draft job listing advertisements by reviewing job description, job qualifications and meeting with managers.
  • Attract applicants by placing job advertisements; contracting recruiters, using newsgroups, job sites and job boards.
  • Create and monitor job postings.
  • Maintain and update candidate information in applicant tracking system; maintain applications, records and files as required by law
  • Determine applicant qualifications by interviewing applicants; analyzing responses; verifying references, comparing qualifications to job requirements.
  • Arrange interviews with management by coordinating schedules; escorting applicant to interviews; arranging Village tours.
  • Evaluate applicants by discussing job requirements and applicant qualifications with managers; interviewing applicants on consistent set of qualifications and questions.
  • Make conditional job offers to qualified candidates.
  • Improve organization attractiveness by recommending new policies and best-practices; monitoring job offers and compensation practices; emphasizing benefits and perks.
  • Avoid legal exposure by understanding current legislation; enforcing regulations with managers; recommending new procedures; conducting training when needed.
  • Process, verify and maintain documentation relating to staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, performance evaluations and classifications.
  • Assist with onboarding new hired employees to include: SVPH 101 Onboarding participation and scheduling, following up with employee regularly within the first 4-6 weeks of employment.
  • Assist with new employee hiring process and orientation including: employee handbook review, employment documents and benefit enrollment as needed.
  • Assists with general duties within the human resources department as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to multi-task, adapt quickly to changing priorities and manage several projects concurrently
  • Thorough knowledge of HR principles and federal/local regulations
  • Exhibit discretion, confidentiality, flexibility, maintain professional relationships and a high level of confidentiality 


  • This position requires travel as needed to job fairs, conferences, colleges and businesses as needed.
  • Valid KY driver's license required. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor degree in human resources or business degree with a minor in human resources
  • Minimum two years' experience in Human Resources, recruiting and interview skills preferred
  • Solid understanding of ADP payroll and time clock systems preferred
  • Restaurant, hotel, retail and/or Not-for Profit experience helpful
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point is essential

  • Regularly required to talk and hear (in person and by telephone)
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms
  • Perform physical activities such as bending, stooping, climbing steps, and walking
  • Frequently required to sit, stand and walk
  • Specific vision ability includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Noise level is usually moderate, normal office environment
