Home to the third largest Shaker community in the United States from 1805 until 1910, SVPH manages the country's largest private collection of original 19th century buildings and is the largest National Historic Landmark in Kentucky. Onsite amenities at SVPH include overnight accommodations, dining and catering services, retail shops, event and meeting venues, riverboat rides, historical exhibitions and tours, farm and garden area, nature preserve, multi-use trail system, equestrian stable and an extensive calendar of special programs, activities and events.  

Event Sales Department 

The Event Sales Department supports the mission of Shaker Village by creating outstanding experiences for guests attending group functions and Village-wide events.  

Position Summary 

The Corporate Group Sales Manager is responsible for revenue production for hotel, meetings, exceeding planed revenue for occupancy and average daily rate (ADR). Manage all areas of sales and achieves a professional rapport with the local business community. The CGSM is a "hands-on" manager, actively involved on a daily basis in securing, qualifying and following up on leads to book specific business.  The CGSM's central focus is sales.  This position is not required to assume operational responsibilities, but should spend most of his/her time selling the "product" the hotel. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

Profit Management 

  • Meets or exceeds budgeted RevPAR (revenue per available room) for the hotel.
  • Forecasts occupancy fluctuations and directs selling activities to maximize revenues.
  • Knows the hotel's demand segments, sources of business for each, and balances market segments according to supply and demand.
  • Knows the principal competition for each market segment and takes advantage of hotel's strengths against each competitor.
  • Accurately forecasts occupancy changes based on changing market conditions (additions to supply and demand, etc.). 

Guest Services 

  • Supports guest service as the hotel's driving philosophy.
  • Personally demonstrates a commitment to guest services by responding to guests' needs.

 Marketing and Sales Management 

  • Develops/Assists with development of the hotel's sales plan, sales strategies, new product offerings and annual forecasts based on the hotel's position and strengths within each market segment.
  • Implements hotel's sales plan.
  • Analyzes and understands the competition's strengths and weaknesses for each market segment and successfully directs marketing activities against each.
  • Identifies and maintains constant communications with the hotel's key accounts.
  • Actively sells room nights through outside sales calls, telemarketing, tours, etc.
  • Actively sells to in-house guests.
  • Knows the competition well. In addition, is familiar with all "business" in the market, where that "business" stays and why.
  • Uses the resources available to surface, call on, and track potential business.
  • Sell group experiences that build awareness and generate revenue with maximum profits margins.
  • Coordinate and host potential clients during onsite property visits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management. 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), as well as organizational skills and thorough attention to detail.
  • Must possess the ability to negotiate, convince, sell and influence clients.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate good judgment, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Shaker Village hotel and amenities.
  • Aptitude to work in a fast paced, "can do" environment with the ability to see the sale through from beginning to end.
  • Ability to implement fresh approaches by being creative and effective.
  • Maintain rapport with competitor hotels, lead sources, clients and local community. 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in business administration, sales, hospitality management or related field of study.
  • Minimum of one-three years full-time employment in sales, hospitality or related experience or related industry position.
  • Professional demeanor, initiative, confidence, creativity, the ability to set priorities in a dynamic environment and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Word, Excel, Power Point 

Travel 

  • Ability to travel within the state 40% of the time for outside sales calls
  • Must have a valid KY Driver License 

Mental and Physical Requirements 

  • Requires high energy level, is actively engaged, willingness to learn, study and become knowledgeable about SVPH activities, events, amenities and guest experiences, requiring research and collaboration with marketing team and other staff as needed.
  • Ability to sit and stand for considerable lengths of time at times
  • Occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 25 lbs. 

Working Environment and Conditions 

  • Requires working some non-traditional hours, including evenings and some weekends.
  • Normal inside and outside weather for travel, meetings, conferences and sales calls.
