Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (SVPH) is on a mission to inspire generations through DISCOVERY, by sharing the legacies of the Kentucky Shakers.  SVPH is committed to bridging historic preservation, land conservation, engaged learning and warm hospitality to present an unrivaled destination experience.

Home to the third largest Shaker community in the United States from 1805 until 1910, SVPH manages the country's largest private collection of original 19th century buildings and is the largest National Historic Landmark in Kentucky. Onsite amenities at SVPH include overnight accommodations, dining and catering services, retail shops, event and meeting venues, riverboat rides, historical exhibitions and tours, farm and garden area, nature preserve, multi-use trail system, equestrian stable and an extensive calendar of special programs, activities and events.

The Trustee's Table supports the mission of Shaker Village by creating quality dining experiences that embrace contemporary tastes while continuing to champion farm-to-table and sustainable sourcing philosophies in the legacy of the Shakers.

Job Summary 

The Hostess position at Shaker Village is responsible for greeting our guests when they enter our restaurant, seating the guests, and making reservations. Hostess also assist with set up of tables and clearing tables for next seating. Hostesses are the first point of contact for our guests. Hostesses must demonstrate genuine hospitality and the ability to make the guests feel welcome. Hostesses are required to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. They must be able to handle guests concerns without getting defensive or confrontational. Hostess must be able to manage the reservation list and still handle walk in guests with the same level of hospitality.  Full-time and part-time hours available (up to 35-40 hrs per week).

Duties: Specific Duties and Essential functions: 

  1. Greet guests as they enter and thank them when they leave.
  2. Seat guests promptly while maintaining a good rotation so servers can provide the best service possible.
  3. Communicate well with coworkers and management to deliver a high level of customer service.
  4. Set up and clear tables as needed.
  5. Demonstrate high level of teamwork to get guests seated in a timely manner without sacrificing hospitality.
  6. Stay informed on happenings in the Village and be familiar with Shaker Village map to be able to communicate with our guests in a way that enhances their experience. 

Standards of performance: 

  1. Report to work on time as scheduled, in proper uniform and well-groomed as defined by Shaker village policy.
  2. Practice good customer service skills i.e. initiative, courtesy, honesty, responsive to guest concerns and, professionalism.
  3. Demonstrate teamwork by providing assistance to coworkers as needed to achieve high standards of service.
  4. Communicate well with management to ensure standards of service and hospitality are met.
  5. Demonstrate working knowledge of our menu's and specials.
  6. Work well with other departments to ensure guest satisfaction. 


  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Friendly outgoing personality with desire to provide a high level of service and hospitality.
  4. Neat clean and conservative in appearance.
